Carrick confirms contract talks with Mainoo and Maguire

Michael Carrick confirmed Manchester United are in contract talks with Kobbie Mainoo and Harry Maguire

On Friday, Your Site News reported that talks with both were progressing and deals were expected to be announced next month.

Maguire, 33, is out of contract in the summer. Mainoo, 20, signed his current deal in 2023 and is expected to be given a significant pay rise.

Carrick, speaking after , in which Maguire was sent off, said: "Contract negotiations with players are always ongoing, so you hope whatever it is gets done in the right way.

"Both have been great, and being back in the England squad is what they deserve. I'm not getting involved on how close things are, but they've both done great."

Man Utd at an advanced stage in Mainoo and Maguire contract talks

Latest from Your Site News' Rob Dorsett:

Manchester United are close to agreeing terms with both Harry Maguire and Kobbie Mainoo over new, extended contracts at Old Trafford.

Both men have today been called up to

Well-placed sources have told Your Site News that negotiations with each player are at an advanced stage, although there is no verbal agreement as yet, and more discussions are still to be had. Both sides are hopeful the paperwork could be signed within the next month.

Mainoos new deal, it is understood, includes a significant pay rise. His current contract was signed in 2023 when he was still 17 and United are keen for his new agreement to better reflect his progression in the last few seasons and his current status within the first team. The current proposal is for a five-year deal to run until 2031.

Maguire is 33-years-old,  his current contract is due to expire at the end of this season, and as one of Uniteds highest-paid players, it isnt yet decided what his new salary level will be, and how much of it will be performance-related. But both Maguire and the club are keen for him to remain at Old Trafford, where he has had a significant resurgence in form under Michael Carrick. A years extension with an option of a further year is being discussed.

The news for both Mainoo and Maguire signals a major turnaround for their fortunes at Old Trafford. Neither man was in previous head coach Ruben Amorims plans, and at the turn of the year, their mutual futures looked certain to be elsewhere. Since Carrick took over, both players have featured in each of the nine Premier League matches on Uniteds fixture list, and both have become among the first names on the team sheet.

'Iraola leading contender for Athletic Club job'

Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola is one of the top contenders for the head coach vacancy at his former team Athletic Club, according to TalkSport.

Iraola's Bournemouth contract expires this summer and this report claims he is set to inform the Premier League club if he is going to extend his deal by the end of the international break.

Ernesto Valverde has announced he is stepping down from Athletic Club at the end of the season.

Returning to Bilbao to take over as head coach is of "significant appeal" to Iraola, TalkSport claim.

Iraola played more than 400 games for the Basque club.

Howe responds to Guimaraes to Man Utd links

Eddie Howe has responded to reports that Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes is in talks with Manchester United.

The reports emerged after Newcastle's 8-3 on aggregate loss to Barcelona in the Champions League on Wednesday.

The Magpies are now out of the Champions League with very slim chances of qualifying for the competition via the Premier League.

"I don't even know how to respond to that. It is a waste of my energy," Howe said when asked about Guimaraes.

"Bruno is our captain and he is fully committed at the moment.

"He is injured at the moment; his only focus is coming back to fitness."

'He is fully committed' | Rosenior responds to Enzo's comments on future

Chelsea deem Enzo Fernandez not for sale and Liam Rosenior insists the midfielder is "fully committed" to Chelsea despite the comments about his future.

With the Argentine under contract until 2032, Chelsea would only ever consider an extraordinary offer for Fernandez and they dont want one.

Fernandez captained the club on Tuesday against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, where they lost 3-0 on the night and 8-2 on aggregate, and was then questioned on his future following the exit.

"I don't know," he said to ESPN Argentina when asked if he would be at the club next season.

"My focus is here now. We have eight Premier League matches to play and the FA Cup.

"Then the World Cup coming up, so we'll see after that."

Chelsea sources believe the comments on Tuesday night were made in the heat of the moment after a demoralising defeat and some of what he said may have been lost in translation.

Speaking ahead of facing Everton, live on Saturday Night Football, Rosenior said: "I had a great conversation with Enzo at length this morning before training, not just about his comments but how he is feeling, how we can improve as a team.

"He is one of the captains at the club and what I will say is that he made it really clear how happy he is here at this club, how much he wants to win and how passionate he is for us to be successful.

"He also said that in translation and in emotions, things get misconstrued. For me, he is fully committed to this group and to win here at this football club."

Chelsea will strengthen their squad again this summer -especially at centre back and in midfield.

Clark appointed Rotherham boss until end of season after Hamshaw sacked

Rotherham have appointed Lee Clark as their new manager until the end of the season after Matt Hamshaw was sacked.

The Millers dismissed Hamshaw after Tuesday's 5-0 defeat at Peterborough, which left them six points from safety in League One.

The 22nd-placed side have moved quickly to replace Hamshaw with ex-Huddersfield boss Clark.

The former Newcastle midfielder was most recently in charge of Al-Merrikh Sporting Club of the Sudan Premier League.

The 53-year-old's first game in charge of the League One strugglers is at leaders Lincoln on Saturday.

Ex-England striker Carroll takes interim charge of Dagenham just two weeks after KSI takeover

Former England striker Andy Carroll has taken interim charge of Non-League side Dagenham & Redbridge, two weeks after social media star KSI bought a stake and became a partner of the sixth-tier club.

Carroll has been playing for the National League South side this season but will now take temporary charge after Dagenham sacked boss Lee Bradbury despite Tuesday's 3-2 win at Farnborough.

The victory leaves Dagenham 12th in the National League South table and six points off the play-off places.

Carroll's first game in charge will be on Saturday as Dagenham take on Neil Warnock's Torquay United.

Bradbury's dismissal comes after just seven months in charge and 15 days

A Dagenham & Redbridge statement read: "Dagenham & Redbridge Football Club can confirm that we have parted company with first-team manager, Lee Bradbury.

"We are very grateful to Lee for his focus, professionalism, and commitment during his time at the Club and for his contributions, both on and off the pitch, to stabilise the club last summer.

"Andy Carroll will take the team on an interim basis, and further updates will be communicated in due course."

Earlier this month, the ex-Liverpool and Newcastle striker formally entered a plea of not guilty to a charge of breaching a non-molestation order and is due to stand trial next year.

The 37-year-old is accused of repeatedly calling his reality TV star ex-wife Billi Mucklow, who has featured on The Only Way Is Essex.

A trial date of January 18, 2027, was set at a hearing at Chelmsford Crown Court.
